DESIRABLE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 SADDLE RING CARBINE IN A SADDLE SCABBARD MADE BY CARIBOU SADDLE SHOP SODA SPRINGS, IDAHO.WINCHESTER18864944640-82 WCFCal. 40-82 WCF. 22" bbl. Blue and case colored finish. Saddle ring. Straight grained American walnut stocks with carbine butt. Bbl address and cal. mark standard for this model. There is an oval "WP" proof along with a "P" in an oval below it behind rear sight. Receiver mounts a saddle ring on left side. Model no. on upper tang, SN on lower tang. Inside lower left tang has assembly no. "25". Toe of buttplate also has assembly no. "25". Scabbard has cartouche that says "CARIBOU SADDLE SHOP MAKERS SODA SPRINGS, IDAHO" on both sides. The initials "D.R.S." are stamped on both sides. Accompanied by Winchester Museum letter confirming carbine, 40-82 cal., shipped from warehouse on November 19, 1890. Order no. 19929. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube are a silver-gray patina overall with traces of blue near muzzle and around rear sight. Sights are very good. Bbl address is sharp. Cal. mark is sharp. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Receiver shows traces of silvered out case color overall with carry wear especially on right side. Hammer and lever are a gray-brown patina. Bolt shows traces of blue. Tang markings are sharp. Stocks are very good, full-sized with moderate scratching and bruising. Buttplate is a silver-gray patina with some light pitting overall. Saddle scabbard is very good with a russet brown finish, some staining and very sharp markings.
