EXTREMELY RARE ORVILLE M. ROBINSON MODEL 1872 TYPE II TUBE LOADING REPEATING RIFLE MADE WITH IRON FRAME BY ADIRONDACK FIREARMS COMPANY.ADIRONDACK ARMSIRON FRAMENSN38 RFCal .38 RF, 24" oct bbl, with 3/4" length magazine, iron frame, blue finish. Straight grained American walnut stock with iron crescent buttplate. Bbl is unmarked. Brass blade front sight, buckhorn rear sight with adjustable elevation by a knurled wheel. Receiver is marked "PT" on forward left side. Receiver has a sliding adjuster on left side with "HD" stamped at forward end. Right side of receiver has a spring steel loading gate that hinges at the forward end. Trigger guard and lower tang is iron. Cartridge elevator is iron. Bolt is marked "Robinson's Pat. Apr. 28 d 72." over "MF'd By Adirondack Firearms Co." over "Plattsburgh New York". Extractor spring on forward part of bolt is marked "Patd Mar. 10. 57" over a partial patent mark of 1871. Stock has varnish finish and no apparent marks. Buttplate is iron with no apparent marks. This is an extremely scarce iron-framed Robinson Repeating Rifle. It is believed that the Adirondack Co. was a financed entity only and that Babbit was the manufacturer of all these guns. Adirondack Firearms Co. was purchased by Winchester in 1874. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl is a mottled brown patina with some roughness and slight traces of blue finish. Magazine is a blue gray patina with traces of blue finish. Sights are very good. Rear sight shows traces of blue. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver is a gray brown patina overall with slight traces of blue at right rear near buttstock. Receiver is somewhat battered near takedown pin. Adjustment slide has sharp mark and a gray brown patina. Loading gate is a silver gray patina. Lower tang/trigger guard is a gray patina. Iron elevator is a gray patina. Bolt is a gray brown patina with sharp markings. Upper line of marking was dbl struck. Extractor spring has a dark blue patina with sharp patent mark, the bottom line of which has faded. Bolt knurling is sharp. Trigger has sharp checkering. Stock is very good with most of the varnish finish, handling marks overall. There is evidence of a paper tag having once been applied on the left side. Buttplate is a gray brown patina with some roughness. An opportunity to obtain an extremely scarce iron frame variation of a Robinson Repeating Rifle.
