SHARPS MODEL 1874 LONG RANGE RIFLE NO. 1 WITH CHECKERED WALNUT STOCK, VERNIER TANG SIGHT, AND ADJUSTABLE GLOBE FRONT SIGHT WITH SPIRIT LEVEL. SHARPS 1874 158200 45-2 4/10 Cal. 45-2-4/10". 32" half rnd, half oct bbl. This rifle is mounted with a fine set of Sharps long-range sights. The front sight being an adjustable Globe-style front sight with inserts and Spirit level. Rifle is mounted with straight-grained American walnut stocks that sport deeply cut checkering on forend and at wrist of stock with a steel checkered shotgun butt. The SN of bbl is matching. Accompanying this rifle is a letter from Dr. Richard J. Labowskie confirming all the above features and showing the weight of rifle to be 9 3/4 lbs. The record also indicates that the rifle was shipped to Liddle & Keading of San Fransisco on August 4, 1887 and states it to be "For Exhibition". PROVENANCE: The Timothy Scott Collection. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 80-85% orig matte blue finish with clear bbl markings and a clear "Old Reliable" cartouche. Bore is fine with very good rifling. Receiver retains 20-30% orig case color in protected areas turning silver-gray overall. There is some erosion on lever and on rear lower tang. Lower tang has an unfilled hole behind lever. Screws are very good with considerable blue remaining. Sights are fine condition. Stocks are very good with numerous handling marks overall and a small crack at front of forend. Checkering is very sharp. Steel buttplate is very good with some erosion at heel. This is a very nice Sharps sporting rifle with a wonderful set of long-range target sights. 50071-26 TEP (5,000-8,000)
