SHARPS MODEL 1874 HALF ROUND HALF OCTAGON BARREL SPORTING RIFLE WITH SET TRIGGERS SHIPPED TO CARLOS GOVE AND SONS DENVER COLORADO. SHARPS 1874 155990 44-90 Cal. 44-90. 32" half-rnd half-oct bbl. This rifle has a bbl with matching SNs and a fine-bladed Rocky Mountain style front sight with a Vernier rear tang sight. Rifle has set triggers, and is mounted with straight grained American walnut stocks with a steel buttplate. Initials "H.M." are scratched into the left wrist of stock. This rifle is accompanied with a letter from Dr. R.L. Moore, Jr. stating that he found this gun in the Sharp''s records, confirming shipment to Carlos Gove and Sons in Denver, Colorado. Letter confirms caliber, bbl, and set triggers. Open sights and oil finished stocks. Weight was not listed but the list price was $44.00. Shipment was on March 3, 1876. PROVENANCE: The Timothy Scott Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 70% matte blue finish with high point wear marks. There is a rub mark probably from a gun rack at joint between rnd and oct section. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver is smooth silver-gray finish overall with some traces of case color in protected areas. Rear tang sight very good. Set triggers function well. Stocks are very good with numerous scratches and mars overall. Forend has some slight trimming at front end. Buttplate is smooth silver-gray.
