Bbl has 1-line New York address and German silver front sight. SN is stamped on bottom rear. SN''s match on bbl, wedge, arbor, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and cyl. SN on trigger guard has a small "U.S." stamped below the number. This revolver appears to be civilian issue, lacks any inspector initials, and was probably "drafted" into service for the Indian Wars. Revolvers with U.S. stampings on trigger guard, below SN, were rebuilt after the Civil War and issued mostly to 9th and 10th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers. Holsters are of the military style with brass end-caps. Holsters have a black finish. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G.W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: 1) Very good. Trigger guard has been cleaned and has a mellow yellow patina with sharp markings. Backstrap has also been lightly cleaned with a blue gray patina overall. Cyl is a gray brown patina overall with very good cyl scene, clear engaged mark, and Colt''s Patent mark. Safety pins are intact but slightly battered. Grip is fine with very few handling marks and very sharp cartouches. 2) Very good. Bbl has a gray brown patina with a sharp address with some battering toward the breech. Front sight has been trimmed. Lug is also battered around wedge. Frame has a gray brown patina with sharp mark. Trigger guard has a mustard patina that has been lightly cleaned and has orange around the area of the trigger guard. All markings are sharp. Backstrap is a blue brown patina with a sharp mark. Cyl is a gray brown patina with traces of cyl scene and sharp Colt''s Patent mark and number. Safety pins are flat. Grip is very good with handling marks overall, high point wear and a legible "OWA" cartouche on left side. Butt of grip has been cut away for a lanyard loop during period of use. Only slight traces of number remains in backstrap channel. Grip has a small chip missing on upper left side. Holsters are very good. Hoods are missing. Finish is crazed overall with an old repair to the Pommel strap. Toe caps have a deep mustard brown patina. A nice pair of Model 1860 Revolvers that saw service in the Indian Wars with an original pair of Pommel holsters, not often encountered in one piece. 49973-78 TEP (4,000-6,000)
