EXTREMELY RARE POSSIBLY ONE OF A KIND COLT MODEL 1861 NAVY REVOLVER WITH IRON BACKSTRAP AND 4-SCREW FRAME THAT IS CUT FOR SHOULDER STOCK. COLT 1861 NAVY 11616 36 CAL Cal. 36. 7 1/2" bbl. Blue and case colored finish with 1-pc American walnut grip. Bbl has 1-line New York address and a replaced front sight with a brass base and silver blade. Frame is of 4-screw type and has cuts on both sides of recoil shield for mounting of shoulder stock. Remnants of Colt patent mark on forward left side. SN matches on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, arbor and grips. Wedge is no. 58371. There is a small "S" stamped under SN on frame and backstrap. Trigger guard is marked "36 CAL" on left side. Extremely rare iron backstrap has a notch at heel to mount a shoulder stock. Cylinder has rolled naval scene. Grip is varnish finish. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl is a silver-gray patina overall with some roughness toward muzzle especially on right side. Bbl address is legible. SN is sharp. Frame is a silver-gray patina overall with only faint evidence of Colt patent mark. Frame has erosion overall. Hammer and trigger are a gray-brown patina. Trigger guard retains traces of silver finish around trigger guard bow and under grips. Iron backstrap is a gray-brown patina overall. SN is only partially visible. Cylinder is a silver-gray patina with a partially visible scene, clear Colt patent mark, and SN. Safety pins are battered. Grip retains traces of orig varnish finish with a clear ink SN in backstrap channel. Grip is somewhat battered at butt. An opportunity to obtain an extremely rare New Model 1861 Colt Navy especially made to mount a shoulder stock. The only one that this cataloger has ever seen. 49973-212 TEP (3,000-5,000)
