LOT OF 2 COLT CARTRIDGE REVOLVERS: MODEL 1872 OPEN TOP AND U.S. MODEL 1860 RICHARDS CONVERSION. COLT 72 OPEN TOP, RICHARDS CONV 2419, 64010 44 RF, 44 CF 1) Cal. 44 RF. 7 1/2" bbl. Blue and case colored finish. 1-pc walnut grip. Markings standard for this model. SN matches on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. Grip was not removed. 2) Cal. 44 CF. 8" bbl. Nickel finish. 1-pc walnut grip. SN matches on frame and trigger guard. Conversion no. 787 on ejector housing, bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and conversion ring. US is stamped on left bbl lug in front of wedge. Inspector mark "A" on trigger guard under conversion no. Cylinder is marked no. 13. All other markings standard for this model. Hammer is mounted on a "Bridgeport" stud. Grips show no visible inspector''s mark. PROVENANCE: The Dr. Robert G. Cox Estate Collection. CONDITION: 1) Good. Bbl is a gray-brown patina overall with spots of roughness on both sides. Bbl address is sharp. Front sight is full-sized. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Ejector rod head has been replaced. Frame is also gray-brown patina overall with some roughness on right side. 2-line patent date is clear. Hammer and trigger are gray-brown patina. Trigger is a replacement. Iron backstrap and trigger guard are gray-brown patina overall with staining on trigger guard bow. Cylinder is also gray-brown patina with spots of heavy staining and about 50% of cylinder scene still visible. Grip has been cleaned, is undersized, and is missing chips at toe on both sides with one large dent at the butt side. 2) Good. Bbl is a gray-brown patina overall with traces of nickel in protected areas. Bbl address is sharp. Front sight has been replaced. Bore is dark with visible rifling. US is visible on left bbl lug. Ejector rod housing retains 50% orig nickel. Ejector rod head has been bent. Frame retains 20% nickel finish mostly at right rear. Colt patent mark is faint. Conversion ring shows 10% nickel. Brass trigger guard is plum-brown patina. Iron backstrap shows 20% nickel mainly behind hammer. All markings are clear and readable.Cylinder is very good and retains 80% nickel finish with full cylinder scene and visible engaged mark. Grip is good with numerous dents and scratches and high point wear. A nice pair of early Colt 44 cal cartridge revolvers that definitely saw service in the Indian war era. 50019-148 TEP (2,000-3,000)
