RARE RICHARDS-MASON COLT MODEL 1861 NAVY CONVERSION REVOLVER. COLT 1861 NAVY RICHARDS CONV 5026 38 CAL Cal. 38. Only about 2000 1861 Navy conversions were made in the mid 1870''s utilizing existing 61 Navy parts. This is a neat variant having both "COLT''S PATENT" mark seen on the ''61 Navy''s in addition to the 2-line 1871 and 1872 patent dates. Left side of trigger bow is still marked "36 CAL". This is an aesthetically pleasing example of a rare Colt conversion with nickel plating which is complete, matching and original. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Gun appears all original with exception of wedge screw. Matching SNs are found on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, grips and cylinder pin. Cylinder is numbered "1895" externally, but matching last 3 numbers of SN "026" on back face. Bbl retains over half of original nickel, frame and hammer have strong traces of bright case colors with balance muted dark mottled gray. Cylinder is gray overall with about half of its rolled Naval battle scene visible. Cylinder pin and loading gate have matching assembly number "588". Grips are well fit, refinished retaining most of their varnish finish. Mechanically gun functions well with fairly bright crisp bore. 49973-166 JS (2,000-3,000)
