COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER BLACK POWDER FRAME WITH ONE-PIECE WALNUT GRIPS.COLTSAA8194445Cal. 45 Colt. 7-1/2" bbl, blue and case colored finish, varnished 1-pc walnut grips. Matching SNs on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and grips. There is a horizontal "C" stamped on frame above SN indicating that frame was condemned for Government service and used on a civilian model revolver. There is an "S" inspector mark behind ejector rod stud. Unnumbered cylinder may be from another gun of same vintage and bears a "P" inspector mark on rear face. Assembly number on loading gate and frame matches. Grips are numbered in ink in backstrap channel. Cylinder base pin screw is a non-factory replacement. PROVENANCE: The Dr. Robert G. Cox Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains considerable bright blue under ejector rod housing drifting to a pleasing plum-brown patina overall with some staining at muzzle. Bbl address is sharp. Front sight is full-sized. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Frame also has a plum patina overall with some pitting on loading gate. Hammer shows traces of muted case color. Trigger shows traces of fire blue. Patent marks on frame are sharp. Cal mark on trigger guard is sharp. Backstrap and trigger guard retain considerable areas of bright blue finish blended into a pleasing plum patina. Grips retain 80% orig varnish finish with high point wear and some dents and staining on either side. Action is out of time and half-cock notch is broken, can be repaired. Screws are good. A nice example of an early Colt "Peacemaker" that was made in 1882, the same year as the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and could definitely have seen use in the taming of the Old West. 50019-161 TEP (2,000-3,000)
