COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER BLACK POWDER FRAME WITH ONE PIECE VARNISHED WALNUT GRIPS.COLTSAA10806544 WCFCal. 44 WCF. 7-1/2" bbl. Blue and cased color finish 1-pc walnut stocks. Revolver has matching SNs on bbl, frame, backstrap, trigger guard and cylinder. Grips were not removed but fit very well. Bbl has a small "44" stamped at the breach end and a "C" inspector''s mark at ejector rod stud. Three line patent address on left side of frame "44 CF" stamped on left front trigger guard bow. Cylinder has an "L" inspector mark on the rear face between two chambers. PROVENANCE: The Dr. Robert G. Cox Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains traces of bright blue under the ejector rod housing with the balance turned into a pleasing plum brown patina. Barrel address is sharp. Front sight is full-size. Bore is dark with some rifling visible. Etched panel is worn off. Frame is a pleasing gray brown patina overall with readable patent marks and no serious pitting. Screws are good. Hammer and trigger are a pleasing brown patina. Trigger guard and backstrap are also a pleasing plum patina with traces of original blue behind hammer and on the butt. Cylinder is also brown patina with some roughness on the front face and in the chambers. Cylinder has a slight drag mark. Base pin has been replaced. Grips retain 50% of the original varnish finish with wear on the high points and some staining. Action functions well but safety notch is weak. A nice example of an old "Frontier Six Shooter" that was manufactured in 1884 and could have seen some action in the taming of the Old West. 50019-158 TEP (1,500-3,000)
