COLT MODEL 1877 DOUBLE ACTION "LIGHTNING" REVOLVER WITH RARE ONE PIECE HARD RUBBER GRIP. COLT 1877 1778 38 COLT Cal .38 COLT, 3-1/2" bbl, full nickel finish with blue screws, checkered 1-pc hard rubber grips with Colt medallions. Bbl has standard 2-line address and an etched panel on left side, that reads "Colt DA 38". Frame has small 3-line patent mark on forward left side. Loading gate and frame have assembly no. 345. SN matches on bbl, frame, trigger guard, cyl, and backstrap. Grip has no. written in pencil in the backstrap groove. Frame has inspector mark "4" on left rear flat and "S" on upper right rear flat. Trigger guard has "38 cal" on the left rear bow. Cyl has "S" inspector mark stamped on front face and SN on rear face. PROVENANCE: The Brad Shepherd Collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 90% orig nickel finish with some slight erosion on the right side. Bbl address is sharp, etched panel is very good and clearly readable with some slight erosion. Bore is frosty with strong rifling and some stains. SN mark on bbl under cyl pin is sharp. Frame retains 90% orig nickel finish overall, that has turned somewhat dull with some loss at the forward end. Patent mark is sharp. Trigger guard retains 60% orig nickel finish with some erosion on the high points and some dulling on the fore-straps. Backstrap also retains about 60% dulling nickel finish with some high point erosion. Numbers are sharp. Cyl retains 80% orig nickel finish with some erosion on 1 chamber. Hammer retains 90% fire-blue on top and back side. Screws and base pin retain a considerable amount of orig fire-blue finish. Trigger retains 50% fire-blue finish with most of the wear on the front face. Action functions well. Grips are fine with sharp checkering, clear medallions, and only slight handling marks. A very fine Early Model 1877 Colt Lightning with extremely rare 1-pc hard rubber grip. 50062-89 TEP (2,000-3,000)
