CASED COLT NEW POLICE/COP & THUG REVOLVER. COLT NEW POLICE/COP & THUG 19973 38 CF Cal. 38 CF. 2 1/4" bbl. Full blue finish with checkered hard rubber grips that have Colt medallion on upper end and Cop & Thug motif on either side. Bbl has 2-line address with etched panel on left side which reads "COLT HOUSE 38". Bbl shows small British proof on bottom side and "P" in base pin gullet. Frame has "A" stamped above trigger on left side. SN is stamped on butt end of frame. Cylinder shows a "P" proof on front face and small British proofs at rear of each flute. Case is English style made of oak with blue felt lining. Screwed on lid has a blank brass medallion in center. Case has a cartridge block that holds 14 cartridges. Case contains an oil bottle and screwdriver. Oil bottle is marked James Dixon & Sons Sheffield. Accompanied by a collector''s index card showing purchase from David Woloch in August 1968. PROVENANCE: The Dr. Robert G. Cox Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 90% bright blue finish with flaking on right side and slight muzzle wear. Etched panel is excellent. Bbl address is sharp. Front sight is full-sized. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Frame retains 95% bright blue overall that is flaking somewhat on straps. Screws retains most of fire blue finish. Cylinder retains 70% blue overall with some flaking between flutes. Bright blue in flutes. Grips are very fine with sharp logo and Cop & Thug motif. Grips fit perfectly. Case is very good with very few stains on lining. One side of lower case needs small repair. A very fine Colt Cop & Thug revolver. 1 of only approximately 4000 made. 50019-251 TEP (3,000-5,000)
