LOT OF 3 ENGRAVED SMITH & WESSON MODEL I 3RD ISSUE SPUR TRIGGER TIP-UP REVOLVERS WITH WEXEL & DeGRESS GRIPS. SMITH & WESSON 3 MODEL I 3RD ISSUE 121183, 121574, 122076 22 RF, 22 RF, 22 RF Cal. 22RF. Revolvers are identical in configuration with 3-3/16" key-hole shaped bbl, half-moon front sight with different engraving patterns. All 3 are mounted with Wexel & DeGress cast metal grips with the raised bust of a European man that has a feather in his soft hat with a necklace around his shoulders, surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns. 1) Nickel finish, engraved in New York-style with foliate arabesque & geometric patterns probably from the L.D. Nimschke shop. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains 97-98% strong orig nickel with only slight losses around the forcing cone. Mechanics are fine. Grips retain virtually all of their orig nickel. Bright shiny bore. 2) Nickel finish, engraved in New York-style, also probably from the L.D. Nimschke shop with very similar patterns as #1. CONDITION: Very fine, overall retains about 95-96% strong orig nickel. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore. Grips show moderate wear and retain about 40% orig silver plate with the loss areas copper colored. 3) Gold over silver finish, L.D. Nimschke engraved with full coverage on the frame with square & dot panels on each side of the bbl and geometric patterns on the back strap. Cyl is engraved with sunbursts on lands between flutes. CONDITION: Very fine, overall retains about 50% orig gold wash on the frame, cyl & bbl with the loss areas having the silver undercoat showing through. Silver is a dark patina. Front & backstraps are mostly a grey patina. Grips retain traces of orig gold wash with the silver under plate turning dark. Mechanics are fine. Strong bright bore with some scattered light pitting.
