EXTREMELY RARE AND IMPORTANT REID "MY FRIEND" KNUCKLEDUSTER PRESENTED TO J.M. EGNOR - THE ONLY KNOWN FACTORY INSCRIBED KNUCKLEDUSTER. REID MY FRIEND 3589 .22 Cal. 22. Standard configuration frame marked on bottom left "MY FRIEND". Bronze frame. Orig cylinder pin in front of frame is un-numbered. Hammer originally nickel plated. Cylinder with nickel finish. Front of frame with safety. Grip sides with very tasteful floral scroll, a bit more decorative than typically seen. Recoil shields lightly engraved as is top strap and front of frame. Bottom of trigger guard with SN, butt with knurling in shield motif - a bit more decorative than is typically seen, top of butt engraved in fancy script "J.M. Engor". J.M. Engor worked for Reid in his Catskill plant and later became Reid''s son-in-law. PROVENANCE: The Carmen Gianforte Collection. CONDITION: Excellent with orig finish throughout. Cylinder retains 90% orig nickel plating with just the beginnings of light oxidation and has never been cleaned, exhibiting a very honest orig slightly dulled finish. Top strap and front of frame retain approx 75-80% orig nickel plated finish. Butt retains 80-85% orig nickel plated finish with scattered handling marks throughout. Hammer is also very good. Engraving is sharp. Mechanics are in need of minor adjustment, though hammer spring is strong, cyl arm does not catch on every pull. 49895-21 JSL58 (2,250-3,250)
