THREE SCARCE LATE IRON FRAME REID KNUCKLEDUSTERS IN .22 CAL. REID 3 IRON FRAME KNUCKLEDUSTERS 17474, 17582, 17620 22, 22, 22 Cal. 22. 1) Iron frame. Top strap marked on left side "MY FRIEND PATD DEC. 26, 1865". Cylinder pin with matching SN at front of frame. Hammer originally in the white. Cylinder with nickel finish. No safety. Grip sides with very tasteful large open floral scroll. Front of trigger guard with SN, knurling in oval motif on butt. Top strap nicely wave engraved and background shaded, recoil shield with light line engraving. Front frame with light sunburst line engraving. 2) As noted above. 3) As noted above. PROVENANCE: The Carmen Gianforte Collection. CONDITION: 1) Very good overall. Frame retains 20-30% orig nickel finish. Cylinder with approx 30-40% orig nickel finish, balance turned silver. Engraving is crisp. Mechanics good. 2) Very good overall. Retaining 20-30% orig nickel finish on frame. Cylinder is excellent and retains most of what appears to be an older restored nickel finish, though could be orig. Engraving is crisp. Mechanics in time. Very good overall. 3) Gun is very good. Retains 60% orig nickel plating with scattered light losses and flaking and an area of minor corrosion on right side of frame at top of engraving. Cylinder is very good to excellent and retains approx 80% orig nickel finish. These late iron framed guns are a rare variation with approx 150 known. 49895-67 JSL65 (2,750-4,000)
