TWO FINE NINETEENTH CENTURY BOWIE KNIVES.

(1) Massive German made 18" overall clip point Bowie knife made for South American market with shaped octagonal polished bone grip, German silver mounts with monster head pommel, fine original tooled sheath with German silver mounts. Blade measures 11-3/4" with 4" clip. (2) Skinning knife with unusual makers mark hand engraved on blade "Made By J. E. Carr". Grip is split polished antler retained by 2 copper peened over pins. Knife measures 12-1/2" overall with 7-3/4" blade. SIZE: CONDITION: Very good to fine overall, German Bowie shows old sharpening with makers mark worn but mostly discernible, overall gray/bright with pitting, sheath is sound, solid with craquelure to surface, well patinaed polished bone grip has several hairline cracks with chipping at base. Skinner exhibits blade with light sharpening to edge, traces of original luster being mostly a mottled brown with staining and pitting, grip is very good with hand worn patina. 49975-1 JS (2,000-3,000)
