SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 CARBINE CONVERTED TO FIRE METALLIC CARTRIDGES. SHARPS 1863 C25892 50-70 Cal. 50-70. 22" bbl with Sharps bbl address in front of sight and "NEW MODEL 1863" behind rear sight. Straight grained American walnut stocks. Bbl has 5 groove rifling. Bbl has "E.A.W" inspector mark at left breech. Sight has "LAWRENCE PATENT" mark. Sights are standard for this model. Receiver has Sharps patent mark on left side opposite hammer, Lawrence patent mark on right side, and Sharps patent mark on lockplate. There is a "W" inspector mark on forward left side of receiver. Disc primer system is still in place. SN is stamped on upper tang. Buttstock has "DFC" inspector''s cartouche on left side in middle. There is a "C" stamped behind lower tang. Forestock is unmarked. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 95% dull blue finish. Bbl markings are sharp. Bore is bright and appears unfired. Bbl band retains traces of case color. Sights are very good. Sight patent mark is faint. Rear sight may be a replacement during conversion from another gun. Receiver retains 80% case color that is vivid in protected areas especially around hammer. Screws show most of blue finish. Firing pin shows most of blue finish. Extractor shows fire blue. Breechblock retains most of orig case hardened finish. All markings are sharp. Lever is a smooth gray-brown patina with some case color in protected areas. Saddle ring and bar are a silver-gray patina. Stocks are very fine with only a few handling marks and sharp inspector marks. Buttplate retains 50% orig case color with bright blue screws. Bbl band retainer retains 50% fire blue. This is an exceptionally fine model 1863 Sharps carbine that would have been issued during the Indian Wars. Hard to improve upon. 49973-37 TEP (2,500-4,500)
