SHARPS NEW MODEL 1859 MILITARY RIFLE. SHARPS NEW MODEL 1859 C37045 52 Cal. 52 percussion. 30" bbl. Blue and case colored finish. Straight grained American walnut stocks. Bbl has standard sights with Sharps bbl address in front of rear sight and New Model 1859 stamped at breech end. Receiver has Sharps patent mark on left side with small inspector''s initials overall. Lock has Lawrence patent mark behind hammer and Sharps patent mark at wrist. SN is stamped on upper tang. Buttstock has a patch box on left side with a sling swivel mounted. Buttplate has small inspector mark on tang. Buttstock also has 2 inspector cartouche marks on left side of stock opposite lock. Forestock has inspector initials near receiver. Middle bbl band mounts a sling swivel. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good overall. Bbl is an even plum-blue patina with some minor scratches and dents. Bbl band retains traces of case color. Sights are good. Bbl markings are clear. Bore is dark with faint rifling. Receiver has sharp markings and is dark brown patina overall. Left side screws are somewhat marred. Breechblock is somewhat battered. Takedown lever is a replacement and shows considerable fire blue. Lever and hammer are also a dark brown patina. Lockplate retains traces of case color especially around hammer. Stocks are very good with faint cartouche marks and minimal handling marks. Buttplate and patch box have an even gray-brown patina. A nice example of a Sharps Military rifle that is still in orig percussion configuration as most were converted to metallic cartridge after the war. 49973-62 TEP (1,500-2,500)
