REMINGTON MODEL 1875 SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER.REMINGTON1875476.44-40Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). Blue finish with 7-1/2" bbl, German silver front sight and 1-line bbl address. Top left front of frame is marked "44" and sides of trigger guard have fine vise marks. Mounted with 2-pc oil finish, smooth walnut grips that have the SN 675 inside the right grip. Right grip also has 3 notches near the frontstrap and bottom of grips are stamped "HR". There were about 25,000-30,000 of these fine revolvers produced 1875-1889. A large percentage were nickel finished with blue finished revolvers retaining orig finish being quite scarce. This model was the No. 1 competitor to the Colt Single Action Army revolver, but came late to the market long after Colt was well established with military contracts. The 1875 never fully caught on and even after a couple of model changes Remington ceased production of their big bore revolvers in 1896. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl & ejector housing web retain about 80% strong orig blue mixed with lightly flaked areas that is now brown patina. Frame retains about 30% blue with the balance a light patina. Trigger guard & backstrap show blue in sheltered areas. Grips are fine with an added light finish. Hammer will not hold in safety notch, otherwise mechanics are fine. Brilliant shiny bore, shows very little use. 50078-6 JR47 (3,000-5,000)
