LOT OF 4 US SPRINGFIELD ARMORY TRAPDOOR RIFLES: MODEL 1866 ALLIN, MODEL 1873, MODEL 1869 ALLIN, AND MODEL 1888. SPRINGFIELD 1866, 1873, 1869, 1888 NSN, 218687, 34, 300186 50-70, 45-70, 50-70, 45-70 1) Cal. 50-70. 32-5/8" bbl. Blue and case hardened finish. Straight grained American walnut stock. All markings correct for this model. Breechblock is marked "1866" over eagle head. NSN. No visible cartouche on stock. "21" scratched on left side opposite lock. Buttplate tang marked "US". 2) Cal. 45-70. 32-5/8" bbl. Blue and cased colored finish. Straight grained American walnut stock. Stock is of thick wrist design. Sights are correct. Rear sight is attached by studs. "VP" proof over eagle at breech end of bbl. Breechblock marked "US Model 1873". Lock marked "US Springfield" in front of eagle. Stock has "1882" cartouche on left side opposite hammer and circle P behind trigger guard tang. Buttplate is marked "US" on tang. With proper bayonet, scabbard and hanger frog. Brass hanger is marked "US". 3) Cal. 50-70. 32-5/8" bbl. Blue and case colored finish. Straight grained American walnut stock. Orig sights. Bbl bares no proof marks. Breechblock shows "1869" over eagle head over "US". Lockplate shows "US" over "Springfield" in front of eagle. "1863" behind hammer. Stock shows no cartouche with a "W" carved into left wrist. Buttplate has "US" on tang. "34" on receiver tang. 4) Cal. 45-70. 32 5/8" bbl. Blue and case colored finish. Correct sights. Proof at breech of bbl. Rod bayonet under bbl with sight hood. Breechblock is marked "US MODEL 1884". Lock is stamped "1884". Trigger guard has 2 extra holes behind trigger bow. Stock shows no acceptance cartouche. Comb of stock is carved "K" over "71" over "73" on comb. Buttplate is stamped "US". Cartridge belt is Mill''s style with leather billet and brass buckle. "45" marked on buckle billet. "W.S.T." on back of billet. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: 1) Fair to good. Bbl is a dark brown patina overall. No evident proof marks on bbl. Sights are correct. Bore is black. Breechblock shows traces of case hardened finish. Lock catch is loose. Mark is clear. Lock and hammer are a dark brown patina finish with clear marking. Trigger guard, buttplate and bbl bands are dark brown patina. Stock is good with no visible cartouche and numerous handling marks overall. 2) Good. Bbl is an even plum-brown patina with bayonet wear at muzzle and sharp inspector marks. Sights are very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Breechblock show case colored finish on bottom side. Lock, hammer, and trigger guard are gray-brown patina. Stock is very good with clear markings, scratches and dents, and speckles of white paint. Buttplate is gray-brown with clear "US" mark. Bayonet is good with brown patina and stains overall. Scabbard is good with heavy pitting toward front. Leather frog and brass hanger are very good. 3) Good. Bbl is silver-gray with some bright finish around rear sight. Sights are good. Bore is frosty with sharp rifling. Breechblock is dark gray with clear mark. Lock is silver-gray with clear mark. Hammer retains a considerable amount of case colored finish. Trigger guard is gray-brown patina. Stocks are good with numerous handling marks and dents. Buttplate is silver-gray patina. 4) Good. Bbl is blue-brown all over with evidence of retouch on the finish. Proof mark is sharp. Sights are good. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Breechblock shows bright case color on under side and traces on top surfaces. Area around SN has been polished and re-blued. Hammer and lock are gray-brown patina as is the trigger guard. Stock is very good with a few mars and dents. Buttplate is gray-brown patina. Belt is in good condition with all cartridge loops intact. Sword hanger is present. Leather has lost most of black finish on billet. Buckle billet retains black finish. Buckle''s mustard patina polished on outside.
