NIFTY 4 BORE HIGH QUALITY AMERICAN PERCUSSION WATER FOWLER BY NORRIS & BROTHER OF BALTIMORE.NORRIS & BROTHERPERC FOWLER1534 BORECal. 4 Bore. (.945 Bore diameter) 36" Damascus bbl measures 1.60" across octagonal breech, which transitions to 16-sided, and then through triple wedding band to round. Top flat is engraved "NORRIS & BROTHER MAKERS 248 MARKET STREET BALTIMORE" (working 1840 - 1864). Bbl is fitted with under rib holding hickory ramrod which is held by two plain pipes. Case hardened patent breech has vented platinum blow-out. Very high quality lock (see web picture of internals) is engraved "NORRIS & BROTHER" within knotwork borders, and is fitted with tall flat bodied chamfered serpentine hammer. All furniture is of steel. Nicely crotch figured American walnut stock has well cut flat top checkering at grip and forend. A silver truncated rectangle engraved "T" is at top of grip. Stock is also fitted with horn forend tip, and attaches to bbl with two captive side nails to engraved oval steel escutcheons. CONDITION: Very fine, as found. Metal parts retain a considerable amount of their orig finishes under accumulated light rusting and grime. Stock retains 85 - 90% orig varnish with numerous marks and scratches, and has never been cleaned up. Bore is good, with some light pitting, and a bulge on right side of bbl 3" back from muzzle. Lock is crisp. These American waterfowlers are quite scarce, and usually found in poor condition. Most are not of the quality of this example from the Chesapeake. 50117-1 MGM157 (2,500-3,500)
