U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 RIFLE WITH 1905 MODIFICATIONS AND 1906 CALIBER CHANGE.SPRINGFIELD ARMORY1903123473.30-06MODERN; C&RCal .30-06, 24" bbl, blue finish. Straight grain American walnut stock. This rifle exhibits 1905 modifications. Bbl is marked "SA" over ordnance bomb proof over "05" behind the front sight. There is an "A" inspector mark below the sight. Rear sight is graduated to 2,700 yards. Receiver is marked "U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903" over SN on front ring. Bolt is blue. There is a partial inspector mark on bottom of bolt handle that appears to be an "A". Stock has an inspectors cartouche on the left side above trigger in a rectangle. There is a large "C" stamped in front of cartouche and "H" inspector mark in magazine disconnect groove. Stock is stamped "62" over "77" behind trigger guard with an "A" inspector mark below and remnants of a circle "P" proof mark. Forward end of stock has a "S" proof stamp. Hand guard is of the un-grooved type and has an "S" proof at the rear in front of sight. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl is a smooth gray patina with some roughness near the front sight and traces of blue finish in protected areas. Receiver retains a considerable amount of orig blue finish. Markings are sharp. Trigger guard and floor plate also retain a considerable amount of blue finish, blending with a plumb brown patina. Bolt retains considerable blue finish overall with wear marks from use. Bolt handle has traces of blue in protected areas. Stock is very good with clear markings and dents and scratches overall commensurate with the age of rifle. This is a very early Springfield Model 03 Rifle with 1905 modifications. 49767-7 TEP (2,000-2,500)
