UNIQUE U.S. M-1 CARBINE MADE BY THE UNDERWOOD ELLIOTT FISHER COMPANY OF HARTFORD, CT WITH SPECIAL SN.UNDERWOODM-1 CARBINEE250.30 M1MODERN; C&RCal. 30 M-1. 18" bbl, Parkerized finish. Straight grain American walnut stock with highly figured hand guard. Carbine does not have any evidence of military inspection. Bbl is unmarked. Receiver ring is marked "U.S. Carbine Cal. 30 M-1" on forward ring. Rear of receiver is marked "Underwood" over SN. Bolt is of the flat style with blue finish. Safety is of the cross bolt style. Magazine is blue with a 5-round capacity. Rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. Sight is marked "J.A.O." over "71160060" on right side. Stock has no evidence of military marks. Hand guard is highly figured. Carbine is equipped with canvas sling. This carbine is accompanied by a certificate from Underwood to E.A. Woollett dated March 16, 1945 in appreciation for his loyal effort in winning the Army/Navy Production Award for Excellence in War Production. Also included is a letter to the employees dated April 12, 1944 describing the carbine painting which is also included with this gun. Painting and both letters are nicely framed. This carbine appears to be an in-house presentation to employees, hence the unique SN. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 90% fading Parkerized finish on bbl with sharp turning marks. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Receiver retains 95% orig Parkerized finish with very clear markings. Bolt retains 95% blue finish. Trigger guard retains 80% Parkerized finish with slight high-point wear. Magazine retains 90% dull blue finish. Buttplate and first type bbl band without bayonet lug retain 95% Parkerized finish with slight high-point wear on butt. Stock is fine with only a couple of minor dents and scratches.
