PARKER GRADE 3 LIFTER ACTION HAMMER SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN.PARKERGR 31871916 GACal. 16 ga. 27" No. 3 laminated steel bbl. Information from the Parker Gun Identification & Serialization book and other sources supplied by consignor indicate this may be one of only four US made Parker 27" bbls and possibly the only one in 16 ga. IMP-CYL & CYL chokes. 2-1/2" chambers. 0 frame lifter action has deeply carved ornate bolsters with hand engraving featuring bird dogs on lockplates with shorebird on trigger guard surrounded by fancy borders with flurries of foliate scroll with stippled backgrounds. Dbl triggers and extractors. Steel tipped checkered walnut splinter forend. Checkered stock of fancy thin shell walnut with hard rubber grip cap and teardrops having silver name shield on wrist. LOP: 14-1/8" over checkered hard rubber buttplate. Parker Gun Collector's Association letter discusses specifications of gun and lists the following information: "ordered by the Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis MO on April 21, 1880- and shipped on August 31, 1880. According to Parker Bros. Order Book No. 8, it was a $140 Dollar Grade, Lifter Action Hammer Gun, 16 gauge. It featured Damascus steel barrels with a length of 27 inches." Letter further shows the gun was returned to Parker twice, in 1880 "to put on a rubber butt" and again in 1881 "to take out dents and rebrown, make perfectly clean inside, and tighten up hammers." CONDITION: Bbls have very good gray/black refinish showing good Damascus pattern. Lightly pitted bores. Action has faded to gray with spots of freckling. Stocks have moderately worn checkering and appearance with scattered scratches and handling marks. 50542-1 DS (3,500-6,000)
