LOVELY HIGH CONDITION GRADED MERIDEN FIREARMS CO SIDELOCK SHOTGUN.MERIDEN ARMSGRADE K4770412MODERN; C&RCal. 12 ga. 28" Krupp Steel bbls, 2-3/4" chambers, Full & Full chokes. Left side of watertable is stamped "K28" above SN, indicating 28" Krupp bbls. Right side of watertable stamped "55", indicating grade. Matted rib, single bead front sight. Touches of wedge engraving at bbl breeches. Splinter forend with Anson & Deely latch. Touches of engraving on latch and forend iron. 3-point checkering pattern. Extractors. Engraved receiver is treated to lovely touches of banknote scroll. Left side lockplate engraved with two quail and scroll work. Right side lockplate with two pheasants and scroll work. Both lockplates engraved "The Meriden Fire Arms Co". Engraving on and behind breech balls. Belly of receiver with two engraved birds, banknote scroll and border around floorplate screw. Top lever with touch of banknote engraving. Hingepin engraved. All screws engraved. Bottom of trigger bow with scroll work. Nicely figured buttstock with 5-point checkered capped pistol grip. Bakelite buttplate. LOP 13-7/8". Automatic safety. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain over 95% of their orig blue with scattered light oxidation peppering, especially on underside ahead of forend. Light handling wear at breeches. Mirror bright bores. Receiver and sideplates retain a majority of their orig case color. Color thinning on breech balls and very front of receiver and sharp edges from carry. Slight peppering of light oxidation, mostly on underside and top of top lever. Trigger bow with high polish blue and light oxidation with blue thinning on lower tang. Screws very nice. Wood appears to have orig finish. Forend hardware has gone bright. Checkering sharp on forend and grip. Some light flaking to buttstock finish. Slight tight hairline cracks behind left and right lockplates. Some bumps in checkering. Buttstock with slight scattered handling marks. Buttplate toe chipped. Top lever at center.Gun is tight, operates crisply. 50980-4 TJW (2,000-3,500)
