SCARCE DELUXE FACTORY ENGRAVED MARLIN MODEL 1898 GRADE C SLIDE ACTION SHOTGUN. MARLIN 1898 44507 12 GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 12 ga. 30" plain bbl, metal front bead. Bbl marked on left side "Special Smokeless Steel". Bbl numbered "47312" "F" on right underside indicating full choke. Matted receiver top. Finely engraved receiver left side with large oval vignette of four ducks in flight over marshland. Wavy line engraving around panel edge. Right side engraved with two pigeons in flight on bolt with touches of scroll work front and rear. Checkered forend. Select fancy figured walnut pistol grip buttstock with uncapped S-style grip. Marlin marked hard rubber buttplate. LOP 13-1/2". CONDITION: Very good plus. Barrel retains a majority of its factory blue, thinning at muzzle. Receiver retains generous amount of high polish blue on side panels with thinning blue on receiver tops and some loss at forward part of receiver. Excellent screws. Forend has two hairline cracks on left side and left side rear. Buttstock checkering sharp with scattered tiny marks. Buttplate excellent. Bright unpitted bore.
