SUPERB MODEL 1903 SPRINGFIELD SNIPER RIFLE ATTRIBUTED TO UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS.SPRINGFIELD190367823130-06MODERN; C&RCal. 30 ODD 6. Model 1903 Springfield rifle mounted with Marine Corps issue modified Winchester A5 scope utilizing Mann tapered bases. Mann type Marine Corps issued special click adjustment elevation and windage drums and a spring-loaded plunger directly beneath the two. Scope is complete with its Marine Corps identified carrying care identified to "Private M. H. Van Camp of Company M 13 Regiment, United States Marines". Rifle has Marine Corps modified handguard to facilitate the Mann scope mounting blocks. Rifle is listed in the SN range as other rifles shipped with the telescopic sight according to Springfield Research Service. Scope and case are as pictured on p. 46 of The Complete Book of U.S. Sniping by Peter R. Senich. 1-pc walnut stock with inspector's cartouch on left side. Dual reinforcing pins and finger grooves. Deep dish sight adjustment knobs with all milled components, i.e., trigger guard, bbl band, bayonet lug and buttplate. Bore and mechanics are excellent and is complete with its World War I cleaning kit in butt. Also, with "1918" dated 2-pc leather military sling. CONDITION: Very fine overall, with much blue remaining on scope, bases, sights, bbl and trigger guard assembly. Receiver has faded as is common with double heat treated Springfield receivers. Wood is very good with typical period wear, moderate bruising from storage and use. Scope is exceptionally fine with relatively clear optics and properly functioning adjustments. Leather case is still very fine with all stitching being solid. Internal label to Private Van Camp is still very legible and inked writing on top identifying him as Corporal Van Camp is very legible. Strap is very strong. Case has no serious stress or material loss. 51028-6 TDW (7,500-10,000)
