VERY GOOD COLT WORLD WAR I MODEL 1911 CHAMBERED FOR .455 CALIBER. COLT GOVT MODEL W40527 455 MODERN; C&R Cal. 455. 5" bbl with British 455 designation and proof marks. Left side of slide marked "Colt Automatic Calibre 455". Left side of slide has traditional 2-line patent address and 2-line Colt address with rampant Colt at rear of slide with British proofs above. Right side of fame marked "Government Model" with SN "W40527". Left side of frame has British broad arrow proof and traditional British proofs. 2-pc diamond pattern checkered grips with appropriate trigger, hammer, safety and mainspring housing. Accompanied by a factory letter. PROVENANCE: Gerard Ruth Collection, ex Alex Chauffe SR. CONDITION: Good as refinished. Bore has strong rifling with darkness in grooves. Mechanics are crisp. Grips have moderate wear but are solid and have no material loss. Slight pitting exists under refinish but markings are sharp and legible.
