FINE SPRINGFIELD ARSENAL MODEL 1911 MANUFACTURED IN 1914. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1911 73336 45ACP MODERN; C&R Cal. 45 ACP. 5" overall with Springfield Arsenal chemically blue finish with right side of slide showing the Springfield Arsenal eagle and marked "Model of 1911.U.S.Army". Left side 3-line patent markings with "Springfield Arsenal U.S.A." with ordinance bomb marking at rear over safety slot. Early tapered front sight and proper flat top U slot rear sight. Left side of frame marked "United States Property" with ordinance bomb to rear of trigger. Proper 2-pc diamond checkered grips with 11 rows of checkering. After detailed disassembly, the following parts were discovered to have the correct "S" markings for Springfield - firing pin gate, bbl bushing, hammer, slide stop, grip safety, mainspring housing, safety and trigger. Balance of parts are unmarked with exception of bbl which is a later high standard replacement. Magazine is an exceptional type 2 or key slot as they are commonly known and is exceptional with lanyard loop. PROVENANCE: Gerard Ruth Collection, ex Alex Chauffe SR. CONDITION: Approximately half of the blue finish remains with balance being a pleasant plum. Quite attractive overall and a very honest example of an early Springfield 1911. 51036-21 TDW (4,000-6,000)
