UNIQUE, MASSIVE CONFEDERATE D-GUARD BOWIE IN ORIGINAL DEERSKIN SCABBARD.

This unique D Guard Bowie is shown on pg 222 of Confederate Bowie Knives by Melton, Phillips & Sexton. It is the only Confederate knife I have noted with an orig deerskin scabbard. This massive knife measures just over 24" with a 19-1/2" clip point blade. Wood grip is nicely carved with primitive folk art turnings. SIZE: PROVENANCE: Ex-Dan Schneider, Los Angeles, CA; Wayne McNeese Collection, 2003. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Blade has areas of shine showing orig tool marks. Stained and dirty at ricasso where scabbard has shrunk. Scabbard is solid with some broken stitching and about 2-1/2" of tip missing. Iron overall with iron patina and pitting. Grip sound, solid with hand worn patina with several long hairline cracks. 50427-12 JS (5,000-7,000)
