IMPORTANT ED MCGIVERN SMITH & WESSON USED BY MONTANA LAWMAN.SMITH & WESSONDA27982338 SPCLMODERN; C&RCal. 38 Spcl. Known as the Military and Police Model of 1905 Fourth Change. Manufactured in the late teens or early 20's with 6" bbl with 2-pc diamond patterned checkered walnut grips with gold deep dish medallions. Period large button Heiser of Denver holster. 1-1/2" wide carry belt with dual drop pouch with unsigned nickel buckle and snaps. Has custom high visibility front sight with bead and inletted white metal half moon in rear of sight groove to improve visibility in low light. This Smith & Wesson was a gift from famed shootist and exhibitionist Mr. Ed McGivern, the author of Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting, to Calvin A. Robinson upon his election as sheriff of Flathead County, MT, in 1933. CONDITION: Good overall, with much blue finish remaining on frame and backstrap. Front and rear sight have been modified to give better visibility. Bbl has typical finish wear for a police revolver which has been carried. Cyl has reasonable amounts of loss at high points around flutes. Action is good. Heiser holster has good stitching and is supple. Snap has become loose with age. Belt and drop pouches are in good overall condition with most nickel remaining on its fittings. Attached with this rig is a notarized affidavit from the family of Sheriff Calvin A. Robinson reaffirming the history of this revolver. 50959-1 TDW (5,000-8,000)
