UNION SWITCH & SIGNAL EXP NO 10 PRESENTATION GUN. UNION SWITCH SIGNAL 1911A1 10 45ACP MODERN; C&R Cal. 45 auto. Spectacular Union Switch & Signal (US&S) EXP presentation pistol (1 of about 100). Buffed and DuLite blued. Near new condition. The receivers of all EXP presentation guns usually had some sort of defect in them and were generally rejected military receivers often because of stripped stock screw bushings. Approximately 100 EXP presentation guns were made. Some were high polished, buffed and blued; some were blued over sandblasting. The sandblasted guns had sharp edges and were generally finished like military contract guns. Inside accompanying box includes business card of George A. Blackmore, President of Union Switch & Signal Company, Swissvale, PA and President of Westinghouse Air Brake Company, Wilmerding, PA. Also includes envelope marked "Union Switch & Signal Model 1911-A1 .45 Automatic One of 100 "Experimental" models made by US & S prior to their production of 55,000 weapons at the beginning of WW2. The first eleven weapons were blued and presented to the Board of Directors. This weapon is E X P No. 10. It is still in mint condition having been test fired only. The original test target is still in the box." Author of the above is not known, but the pistols were definitely made toward the end of production and there are a couple of very minor marks on the pistol, one of which we specified as a drag mark. CONDITION: US&S Company EXP NO 10 (EX not visible, but under stock). Overall 99% heavily buffed and blued finish, all correct as a blued EXP presentation pistol; pistol appears exactly as other observed blued EXP pistols. Bbl high standard (HS) on right lug and (P) on left lug. Bore dirty, may be frosted, has been fired but not much. Buffed DuLite finish. Bright blued trigger, checkered hammer, thumb safety, and slide-stop. Bbl bushing has concentric rings. Excellent+ Keyes Fiber stocks. Escutcheon rings around screws. All edges crisp and moderately sharp, despite the buffing. Only the faintest takedown scratch. Fully blued General Shaver made contract magazine. As a presentation gun, no proof marks were required, but slide is "P" proofed off to the left ahead of rear sight, adding credence to the theory that these pistols used rejected military slides and receivers. The receiver is not proof marked, but the slide is. Small ding on receiver, right hand side above trigger guard bow. Accompanying orig cardboard box marked "No 10 One of four given to President of Union Switch and Signal. Dliv 5-3-47". Also included is orig test target sheet marked "1911-A1, 45 automatic No. 10". Target shows age and signatures faint. A superb example of a buffed and blued Union Switch & Signal presentation gun documented to the President of Union Switch & Signal. With documentation and orig box. Fired only a few times. 51033-81 KXK (10,000-20,000)
