OUTSTANDING SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 SNIPER RIFLE WITH 1913 WARNER AND SWAZY TELESCOPIC MUSKET SIGHT AND ORIG CASE.SPRINGFIELD190360221930-06MODERN; C&RCal. 30-06. This rifle is in the correct SN range to be one which was used by U.S. forces during WWI. Bbl marked "SA / ORDNANCE BOMB / 4-15." Inside of the telescopic sight rail marked "FOR RIFLE NO. 625415." One screw missing from the top plate of telescopic sight. Stock marked with "RI" at the front of the forend tip. There is a small "O" marking on the stock just to the rear of trigger guard. No other stock cartouches present. Mount on left side of receiver is orig as is the scope which is properly marked on left side and numbered "2347". Included is an orig leather scope case marked with makers mark "Diamond D" with logo. M1913 wrench present in exterior pocket. PROVENANCE: This very rifle was sold by Julia's in 1994 and is provenanced as coming from "The Quantico Marine Station Museum" and also the Dr. L. Goldfarb collection. Original Julia's auction tag is included with this lot. From High Condition Collection of Discerning U.S. Military Rifle Collector, Offered Without Reserve. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish extremely fine to near excellent with over 85% turning to a pleasing gray patina and particularly on the sight hood. Most of the loss of finish is on the floorplate and trigger guard which retain their blue only in recessed areas, otherwise gray with small area of pitting forward of trigger guard, and on trigger guard where sling rested on it at one time. Scope optics are clear, outstandingly so for this model. Orig rubber eye cap intact getting hard, starting to wrinkle. Wood is exceedingly fine with only slight handling marks with a discernible scratch, perhaps actually a grain check, on left side forward of bbl band. The bore is excellent. The scope case is in very fine condition. Specimens in this high level of condition very rarely surface on the collector market, and this is a great opportunity for Military rifle collectors. 50908-7 JWK74 (4,000-6,000)
