EXCEPTIONAL BENCHMARK EXAMPLE OF LATE GAS TRAP M1 GARAND.SPRINGFIELDM1 GARAND GAS TRAP3056230-06MODERN; C&RCal. 30-06. This historical specimen of the Springfield Gas Trap Garand is absolutely authentic and formerly from Allan Cors personal collection which he acquired in the fall of 1965 or 1966. The only change on this rifle is that the orig large hole over small hole stock was modified to accept a trap type buttplate and later changed to again accept a no trap buttplate. This rifle includes a data sheet provided by Scott A. Duff which includes all the details on this rifle. See link for scan of this provenance. PROVENANCE: From High Condition Collection of Discerning U.S. Military Rifle Collector, Offered Without Reserve. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish fine to extremely fine with over 80% of orig finish thinning to a pleasing gray/brown patina and wear to bare metal at high edges, with almost no finish on the gas port cylinder which is typical. Stock cartouche is discernible although stock has been sanded smooth and exhibits some dings and handling marks. Action is extremely smooth, bore is shiny and bright with mild pitting throughout. Wear pattern on this rifle is completely consistent with a rifle that saw front line service and was cared for. There are only around 40 substantially orig Gas Trap rifles known to exist in private collections. Orig specimens are extremely highly sought after by the most advanced collectors. This rifle is allegedly the very same one featured in an American Rifleman magazine article on Gas Trap Garands by Bruce Canfield, in the mid 1990's. This is an absolute tremendous opportunity for the Historic American Military rifle collector. 50908-3 JWK70 (25,000-35,000)
