SUPERB MAUSER CONEHAMMER CARBINE, NUMBER 12, WITH PERIOD SCOPE.MAUSERC96127.63 MAUSERIMPORTCal. 7.63mm. Mauser made approximately 30 Conehammer carbines that were numbered sequentially. All had ribbed bbl, flat solid rails and a pinned rear sight. This example has a 11.75"; bbl with a pinned bead front sight and a 50-500 rear sight. Chamber that is usually marked with a 3-line address "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N" is covered by the front scope base. The rear scope base is sweated on, by brazing or silver soldering, onto the left side of the bbl extension recess. SN 12 is marked on the left side of receiver and left side of stock lug. Typical Conehammer features include long extractor and separately retained firing pin. The bbl/bbl extension, frame, and floorplate are rust blued while the extractor, components of rear sight, bolt stop, firing pin retainer, safety and shoulder stock lug are fire blued. Orig forend and buttstock fitted with a rotatable sling swivel. Orig horn buttplate molded with the intertwined "MW" monogram. Disassembly shows a matching follower, floorplate, subframe, locking block, firing pin retainer, firing pin, bolt, forend and forend reinforcing bar. The button to release the receiver from the buttstock could not be depressed, likely stuck from congealed grease. The period Karl Kahles scope has a single external adjustment knob with a post reticle and horizontal crosshair. The body is marked "CARL GOLUCH IN LINZ" and optics are protected by leather scope caps. PROVENANCE: The Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin Collection, Germany. CONDITION: At least 97% bright orig rust blue with a small patch of discoloration along the rear edge of the left side of receiver. Only a few flecks of oxidation and minimal thinning. Fire blued small parts, including both arms of the stock lug, in comparable condition with the trigger retaining most of its orig straw. Forend and buttstock with orig varnish, negligible staining and only light handling marks. Excellent scope with only minimal wear and clear optics. Bright bore with strong rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. 49828-2 LMA (40,000-75,000)
