MAGNIFICENT, LARGE RING MAUSER C96 CARBINE, PRESENTATION QUALITY, WITH EXTRAORDINARY ENGRAVING AND GOLD HIGHLIGHTS. (Collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess)MAUSERC965879MM EXPORTMODERN; C&R; IMPORTCal. 9mm Export. Mauser made relatively few Large Ring Carbines, especially in 9mm Export. This spectacularly embellished gun has standard mechanical features including a 14.5" bbl with a shallow ramp for a dovetailed bead front sight and a slip-in 50-500 rear sight. Long extractor, 2-lug firing pin, and large ring hammer. Instead of the usual chamber address this Carbine is marked with a gold inlaid "W. GLASER". The SN "587" is on the left chamber flat. The left side is marked with the Crown/Crown/U while the right side has the antler proof. The full SN on the left side of the frame is repeated on the adjacent stock lug, on the hammer, the bolt stop, the subframe, and the locking lever. Disassembly shows a matching follower grooved for 9mm, a matching floorplate and matching subframe components. As true for standard production guns, major components are rust blued with a fire blued extractor, rear sight components, bolt stop, safety, and stock lug. The trigger is strawed. Lavish floral engraving, bordered in gold highlights, extends to each side of the hammer, the top of the bbl and around the front sight. The stock lug is engraved in a continued and complimentary pattern on each side in addition to the upper and lower arms. Unlike most carbines that have a smooth forend and buttstock, this example has fine bordered engraving on each side of the pistol grip and under the forearm, accented by a delicate Mother-of-Pearl and silver wiring that is also used to border the buttplate. An unmarked heraldic shield, made of bone, is in the toe line of the stock. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. CONDITION: At least 99% bright blue with negligible sharp edge wear. Comparable condition fire blue and straw. Forearm and buttstock are nearly new, with crisp checkering and only the most minute handling dings. Neither the Mother-of-Pearl, bone, or wire inlays show any losses. Same immaculate condition applies to buttplate. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. A truly spectacular carbine whose beauty should transcend the field of firearms enthusiasts. 43475-39 LMA (20,000-40,000)
