MASSIVE FOUR BORE HOLLAND & HOLLAND HAMMER DOUBLE RIFLE WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES.HOLLAND & HOLLANDSxS DOUBLE RIFLE70554 BORECal. 4 Bore. 24" Dovetailed steel bbls are fitted with full length rib with dolls head extension. Portion behind single standing leaf express rear sight, is file cut. Center portion of rib has been cutaway and rises slightly forming front ramp holding small porcelain bead with large flip-up night bead. Tops of bbls are engraved "Holland & Holland. 98. New Bond Street." and "Winners of All The Field Rifle Trials London." Bottoms of bbls are stamped with London black powder proofs for 6 bore, 4 bore chambers, and with powder charge of 328 grains, as well as SN. A large sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Very large (3-1/4" across breech face), case hardened, round bodied, Jones underlever action has top strap which extends over comb and is fitted with peninsula back locks having round bodied non-rebounding serpentine hammers with dolphin heads and tall spurs. Action and locks are engraved with 80% coverage nicely cut small scroll. Right side of action is engraved with makers name, as are tops of lockplates. Left side of action is engraved "CHARGE 12 TO 14 DRAMS CASE 3-1/2 INCHES". Blued trigger guard has SN on tang, which extends to large horn grip cap. Finely marbled, dense European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over Silver pad, and features classic shadow line right hand cheekpiece with bead, and squared point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip. Registration numbers "5" over "1482" are stamped on toe line behind grip cap. This area is also fitted with a sling eye matching that on bbl, and a vacant silver oval. Large matching splinter forend has forward pivoting lever release. Drop at heel: approx 3-3/16", drop at comb: approx 2". Cast: approx 3/8" off. Weight: 22 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 14". High quality gray leather case is lined in charcoal velvet, and is nicely semi french fitted for some high quality brass accessories, including brass ball mold, 2 pieces of 3-pc brass and rosewood cleaning rod, steel wad punch, pewter oil bottle, brass snap caps, H&H marked rectangular large oil bottle, and six turned brass cartridge cases. Also included are the working ends of three turnscrews and striker key. Covered compartment holds pull-through cleaning brushes and nutcracker type ball mold. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, as completely reconditioned, most likely by factory, with only a very few light handling and assembly marks in all fine finishes on wood and metal. Bores are excellent with a hint of frosting in right bbl. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Case leather is excellent, with some minor rubs. Interior cloth is excellent with some light compressions. Accessories are excellent. This superb big bore rifle balances and handles quite well. 50943-1 MGM270 (45,000-75,000)
