FINE HOLLAND & HOLLAND TAKE DOWN MAUSER BOLT ACTION RIFLE WITH CASE AND SCOPE. HOLLAND & HOLLAND BOLT RIFLE 768 375 H & H MAG MODERN; C&R Cal. 375 H&H Mag. (ca 1929) 25" Tapered round bbl is fitted with short, file cut quarter rib holding two folding leaf express rear sight, marked for 50, 200, and 350 yards; and short front ramp holding silver bead, as well as sleeved on sling eye. Top of bbl is engraved ".375 Magnum" "Holland & Holland. 98. New Bond Street, London." London nitro proofs for 56 grains cordite and 300 grain bullet are stamped on left rear of bbl. Standard length Mauser 98 action has had bolt bent for low scope clearance in typical H&H manner without turned circular knob with lightening hole drilled. Action has been fitted with "Jaeger" side mount and low scope safety. Double stage pull trigger has been altered to single stage. A steel drop box magazine with hinged floorplate and release in trigger guard bow, has been fitted. SN is on trigger guard bow. Rifle takes down with rear mount on top tang, and wide slotted screw through front guard screw hole with action and bbl lifting out of stock. Lightly figured European walnut steel trap capped pistol grip stock features classic Holland styling and measures 14" over steel trap buttplate. Stock also features right hand cheekpiece, flat top point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip and forend, as well as recoil bolt, sling eye, and vacant gold oval. Trap in butt contains cleaning rod and trap in cap contains a spare front sight. Leupold Vari X III 1.5 x 6 scope with duplex reticle is in Jaeger single lever mount with low rings. Drop at heel: approx 3-1/8", drop at comb: approx 1-3/4". Cast: approx 1/4" off. Weight without scope: 9 lbs. 1 oz. LOP: 14". What is possibly orig makers leather case with stitched leather corners, is embossed "H.N." on top. Interior is lined in green cloth, and has gold embossed black leather H&H label in lid. Case contains 2-pc brass cleaning rod, small tin bottle of nitro fouling solvent, and a tin of some kind of polishing wax or grease. CONDITION: Excellent, as nicely refinished. All metal parts retain essentially all of a high quality re-blue. Stock retains most of an old oil refinish over some minor marks. It appears bolt release was fitted with Lyman peep sight and a small sliver of wood has been fitted after sight removal. Checkering lightly worn and somewhat filled with finish. Bore is excellent with some light frosting and a hint of cordite erosion at throat. Action is smooth. Scope is excellent with a few light marks, optics clear. Mount shows some rubs. Case leather is very good to fine with numerous rubs and marks. Interior cloth is fine with compressions and light soiling. Label is very fine. The classic dangerous game rifle in perhaps "the" best all around caliber. 50496-2 MGM216 (7,000-10,000)
