FINELY RESTORED MANTON & CO BOXLOCK EJECTOR DANGEROUS GAME DOUBLE RIFLE. MANTON SXS 83388 470 NE MODERN; C&R; IVORY Cal. 470 Nitro Express. 28" Shoe lump bbls are fitted with matted quarter rib holding one standing, three folding leaf express rear sight with platinum lines marked for 100, 200, and 300 yards. Matching front ramp holding ivory bead has knurled sight protector. Top of right bbl is engraved "MANTON & CO GUNMAKERS LONDON & CALCUTTA" and "470-3-1/4 - SOLID METAL CASE" and "75 GRS CORDITE 500 GRS BULLET". Top of left bbl is engraved "By Appointment to H. E. The Viceroy". Bbl flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for the same caliber and load as engraved on bbls. Robust, case hardened, boxlock action features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), crossbolt third fastener, bushed strikers, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with 70% coverage varying sized scroll and with "Manton & Co" on each side. Matching floorplate, top lever, and trigger guard are blued. "HVH8331" is engraved on tang, which extends to case hardened and engraved steel grip cap. Lightly figured, dense European buttstock measures 14-3/8" over leather faced Silver type pad, and features checkered side panels, point pattern checkering at slightly diamond grip, and a sling eye as well as a vacant silver oval, on toe line. Drop at heel: approx 3-13/16", drop at comb: approx 2-1/8". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 12 lbs. 4 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". CONDITION: Excellent, as refinished, retaining nearly all fine factory type finishes on metal parts, engraving re-cut, with subsequent light silvering to thumb lever, and some high edge wear. What appear to be orig stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish over numerous light marks, with a few very light subsequent marks. Pad is relatively new. Checkering lightly freshened. Bores are good with strong rifling throughout, and are lightly pitted throughout, but should still shoot well. Action is tight. Right bbl is very slightly off face. Ejectors don't work, possibly deactivated, as many African hunters prefer simple extractors. 50655-10 MGM145 (15,000-20,000)
