EXCEPTIONAL SPECIAL ORDER FACTORY ENGRAVED SAVAGE MODEL 99 RIFLE. SAVAGE 1899 22708 303 SAV MODERN; C&R 26" tapered oct bbl with tall sporting front sight and folding semi-buckhorn mid sight. Factory documented as special ordered May 3, 1901, by Mr. W.G. Mann. Rifle delivered September 30, 1903, with style B engraving done by Mr. Enoch Tue. Rifle was ordered with fancy engraving and checkering and was delivered with highly figured walnut stocks masterfully checkered with almost full checkering coverage from both sides of wrist all the way up the back to just to the rear of tang. A panel of checkering was performed on both sides of stock above trigger and to rear of receiver. Forearm checkered in a matching pattern is tightly checkered from a 1/2" from the front of the receiver to 3-1/2" to the forearm's semi-schnable forend tip. Stocked with a matching piece of highly figured American walnut with crescent butt. Left side of receiver is engraved with a small vignette of a running deer with a mountain scene background with a 2-line border. Balance is foliate arabesque coverage with a single line border and a chiseled cut design border at very rear of receiver and at front of receiver carrying over the top with attractive engraving on receiver bolster. Right side of receiver is a vignette of a white tail doe running with forest background and stream frontage. Engraved in the identical pattern as the opposing side with foliate arabesque with single line border. Top crest of left side of receiver bordered on both sides with scrolls is factory engraved the name "W.G. Mann". CONDITION: Condition is superb overall, with only very slight traces of wear on the crowns of the oct bbl. with a trace of muzzle wear where finish is slightly thinning. Receiver is exceptional with only several small areas of finish thinning or wear and they are only at the extreme high points of the rear flats of the receiver. The case colored lever retains virtually all of its vivid case colors. The extra fancy walnut stocks have several very small abrasions and scratches at the very toe area, but retain virtually all of its deep piano finish. One small repair has been performed on the forearm at the very back left top. A small chip of which the orig. material has been reattached and is stable. A spectacular engraved Savage with factory documentation. 50506-63 TDW (7,500-12,500)
