SVELTE LIGHTWEIGHT 16 GAUGE WOODWARD OVER-UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN. WOODWARD SXS 6429 16GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 16 ga. 2-5/8" Chambers. 24-1/8" Demi-bloc Whitworth steel bbls are fitted with low, flat, file cut rib engraved "James Woodward & Sons. 64 St.James's Street London. S. W." and with Whitworth steel information on unmatted portion of rib. Right side of top bbl and bottom of bottom bbl are stamped with London nitro proofs for 1 oz of shot, along with "WHITWORTH STEEL". Sides of bbls are fitted with trips and springs for Woodward's early type ejector system. Low profile OU action is fitted with back action sidelocks, and features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold, which is covered by Woodward's typical T-shaped safety button when in "fire" position), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and sgl non-selective trigger. Gun is one of a pair, with "2" gold inlaid on rear portion of rib, forend tip, and top lever, which pushes to the left to open gun (as if it were built for a left handed shooter, however stock is cast off and trigger is slightly turned for right handed shooter). Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage well cut rose and scroll in Woodward's house style. "J. Woodward & Sons" is engraved on sides of action, trailing onto lockplates. Bottom of action is engraved "Woodward's Patent" "Under & Over". Small bow scroll engraved trigger guard is engraved "Woodward's Single Trigger" on bow, and with relief SN on tang, which extends in typical Woodward style through Prince of Wales type grip to a hard rubber grip cap. Very nicely streaked and nicely figured flesh-toned Circassian walnut buttstock measures 14-3/8" over russet leather covered pad. Other features include classic drop points and point pattern checkering. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Slim ejector forend has Anson type release. Bore diameter: top -.667, bottom - .666. Bore restrictions: top - .013 (lt mod), bottom - .013 (lt mod). Wall thickness: top - .030, bottom - .028. Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-5/8". Weight: 5 lbs. 14 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain approx 95% of an old glossy re-black. Action and lockplates retain a considerable amount of their orig case hardening color, mostly muted to silver gray. Sidelock pins have been re-fire blued. Stocks retain most of an old oil finish, with numerous light marks and scratches, worn through from normal handling at grip and bottom of forend. Pad is relatively new. Checkering has been freshened with light subsequent wear. Bores are excellent, with some light frosting in top bbl. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong. Trigger works.
