NEARLY AS NEW, FACTORY CORRECT SURVIVOR JAMES PURDEY SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER HEAVY PROOF GAME GUN.PURDEYSxS2724912GAMODERN; C&R(1964) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 28" Chopper lump bbls with slightly raised, matted, narrow game rib, are engraved "James Purdey & Sons." and "Audley House South Audley Street London. England." Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs and bbl makers initials "JA" (J Aldous). Tube nos "68345" and "68346" are on loop. Case hardened, Beesley patent self-opening, sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and Purdey single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved in well cut, classic, house style rose and scroll. "J. Purdey & Sons" is on the bottom of each lockplate, and on bottom of action over "London" and "England". Small bow trigger guard is engraved in typical large, open scroll, with SN on tang, which extends to small hard rubber grip cap. Very fine, nicely marbled, and attractively stump figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over checkered wood butt, and features typical drop points, point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip, and vacant gold oval on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Actioners initials "T.B" (unknown) are on iron. Bore diameter: left -.729, right - .728. Bore restrictions: left - .039 (full), right - .019 (mod). Wall thickness: left - .035, right - .035. Drop at heel: 2-1/2", drop at comb: 1-7/16". Cast: neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". Included with gun is a pigskin leather case with brass corners, lined in scarlet felt, containing pair of spare strikers in a plastic box, Purdey marked square oil bottle, cleaning mop in Purdey marked leather wallet, and a 3-pc brass and walnut cleaning rod. CONDITION: Excellent, close to new, with a few light marks and some thinning in orig bbl blue. Action colors are silvered slightly on beads, with a hint of silvering on fences. Hinge pin retains nearly all of its bright blue, as do tumbler ends, which are silvered on ribs. Top lever is slightly silvered on thumbpiece. Trigger guard is silvered on edges of bow, with blue considerably thinned at grip. Stocks retain essentially all of their orig "slack-um" oil finish with a few slight handling marks. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Drop is good. Iron slightly marks bottom of action. Ejectors are in time. Trigger appears to work well. Case leather is excellent with a few light rubs. Interior felt is slightly soiled, and with rubs and compressions from contact with action. Accessories are excellent.
