AS FOUND, 1960'S VINTAGE PURDEY HEAVY PROOF GAME GUN WITH SINGLE TRIGGER, MOTOR CASE AND ACCESSORIES. PURDEY SXS 27010 12 GA MODERN; C&R (1961) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 26" Chopper lump bbls with slightly raised, narrow, matted rib are engraved "J. Purdey & Sons." "Audley House. South Audley Street. London. England." on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN and bottom of left bbl with bbl makers initials "JA" (J Aldous). Tube numbers "67317" and "67318" are on loop. Case hardened, Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, and Purdey's single non-selective trigger. Action and lockplates are engraved with well cut Purdey house style rose and scroll. "J. Purdey & Sons" is at the bottom of each lockplate, and bottom of action over "London" "England". Small bow trigger guard with open scroll has SN on tang. Lightly marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-3/8" over leather covered pad, and features typical drop points and point pattern checkering at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release is stamped with actioners initials "B.D" (Ben Delay) on iron. Bore diameter: left -.731, right - .730. Bore restrictions: left - .003 (skeet), right - .001 (skeet). Wall thickness: left - .036, right - .032. Drop at heel: 2-3/16", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: approx 1/2" off. Weight: 7 lbs. 2 oz. LOP: 15-3/8". Orig makers tan leather motor case with stitched leather corners is embossed "A. B. HUNT" "WESTON" "MASS." Interior is lined in purple cloth and has gold embossed black leather Purdey label in lid, along with charge card for this particular gun, and case instruction card. Case contains 2-pc walnut and brass cleaning rod with jag, brush, and mop, broken case extractor, horn striker bottle with spare strikers, Purdey marked square oil bottle, Purdey marked snap caps, horn handled striker key and turnscrew. A red morocco wallet has cleaning brushes. A black morocco wallet has pull through cleaning kit. CONDITION: Very good to fine, as found. Mr. Hunt really enjoyed his Purdey. Bbls retain about half of their orig blue with considerable loss due mostly to hand wear, but with some light pitting around muzzles, and numerous marks and scratches. Action and lockplates retain 10 - 20% orig case hardening color, mostly where protected. Stocks retain most of their orig finish with numerous marks and bumps. Leather of pad is considerably deteriorated, worn through at heel and toe. Buttstock likely a replacement (its shaping just isn't quite "right"). Checkering worn. Bores are excellent with a number of shallow dents at top of left bbl about 6" back from muzzle. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Drop is good. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works. Case leather is very fine, a bit dusty with some light rubs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is good, with a bit of mildew. Accessories are good. 50286-1 MGM300 (15,000-25,000)
