FINE OLD PAIR OF JOSEPH LANG SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUNS WITH CASE.JOS. LANGSXS13557/1355812GAMODERN; C&R(ca 1903) Cal. 12 ga. 2-5/8" Chambers. 28" Dovetailed bbls with swamped game ribs, are engraved "Joseph Lang & Son" and "7 Bury Street St. James's. London." on tops. Rear portions of ribs, top levers, and forend tips are engraved with numbers "1" or "2". Guns were built as a true pair. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 1-1/8 oz of shot, and with importers mark "BERTRAM & CO BOULDER CO". Bottoms of bbls are stamped with makers initials and SNs. Case hardened, screw grip, sidelock actions feature automatic safeties, rib extensions with third fasteners, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and Lang's highly regarded sgl non-selective triggers. Actions and lockplates are engraved with 50% coverage well cut varying sized shaded scroll. "Joseph Lang & Son" is on each lockplate. Blued and engraved trigger guards have small bows, and SNs are engraved on short tangs. Striking, nicely matched and well marbled, figured European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 14-1/2" over checkered wood butts on 1" lengthening pieces. Stocks feature standard oval crest plates, point pattern checkering, and drop points. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forends have Anson releases. Gun no. "1": Bore diameter: left -.736, right - .734. Bore restrictions: left - .018 (mod), right - .002 (cyl). Wall thickness: left - .025, right - .027. Drop at heel: 2-1/8", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". Gun no. "2": Bore diameter: left -.734, right - .734. Bore restrictions: left - .025 (IMod), right - .002 (cyl). Wall thickness: left - .028, right - .026. Drop at heel: 2-1/8", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Weight: 6 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". Makers leather two gun case, most likely original, with brass corners, is embossed with initials "CHS" on top, and is lined in burgundy cloth, with red and gold leather Lang label in lid. Case contains a pair of AGL marked snap caps, pair of plain snap caps, and some cleaning equipment including 3-pc brass and ebony rod, and a chamber brush with articulated joint. CONDITION: Very good, as partially refinished. Bbls retain approx 90% of a fine lustrous re-black, engraving still clear. Actions retain approx 20% orig color where protected. Lockplates retain approx 40% of their color on gun no. "2", and about 20% on gun no. "1". Stocks retain nearly all of a well done oil finish, with a few subsequent marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent, with one or two small pings. Actions are tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Triggers work. Case is good, leather dark in color, with many rubs (has been conserved). New straps and handle are fine. Orig interior cloth is considerably soiled and rubbed. Label is fine. Accessories are good.
