28 GAUGE ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI "VENERE EXTRA LUSSO" SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN WITH FINE SCROLL AND BULINO GAME SCENES BY GALEAZZI WITH CASE. ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI SXS 467 28GA MODERN Cal. 28 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. This gun was made after Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli changed their numbering system, and were building some of the world's best guns. This finely crafted example represents a combination of the finest gun making with exceptional embellishment. Finely struck 27" chopper lump bbls are fitted with slightly raised, flat, matted rib. Side of left bbl is gold inlaid "ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI". Bbl flats are stamped with "A&S", SN, and 1982 Italian nitro proofs. Rear lump is stamped with first names of craftsmen involved in the making of this fine gun; Dante, Mario (Abbiatico), Poli, Remo (Salvinelli), and Tony. Coin finished, small sized, sidelock action is nicely filed and features non-automatic safety (S gold inlaid) and single non-selective trigger. Gun is no. "1" of a pair with "1" inlaid in gold on top lever, at rear of rib, and on forend tip. Action is engraved with near full coverage well cut small scroll, surrounding fine bulino vignette of a pair of woodcock settling in behind large alder branch. Left lockplate portrays a trio of ruffed grouse flying from trees across opening with birches in background, reminiscent of paintings by noted wildlife artist, David Maas. Right plate depicts a covey of 6 quail erupting from tall grass with farmland and pond as background. Bottom scene is not signed, but both sideplates are signed "Galeazzi", most likely Angelo, highly regarded master engraver, noted for his fine Bulino work. Single beaded trigger guard has scroll matching that on action. SN is gold inlaid on tang. Nicely fiddle figured and somewhat streaked American walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over checkered wood butt, and features drop points and point pattern borderless checkering on diamond hand. Matching slight beavertail ejector forend has Anson release, and A&S silver shield inlet on central uncheckered diamond. Bore diameter: left -.557, right - .555. Bore restrictions: left - .036 (full), right - .013 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-1/16", drop at comb: 1-5/16". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 5 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". Tan leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli is lined in scarlet velvet and contains straps and a key. CONDITION: Excellent, near to new, with only the faintest of handling and assembly marks on wood and metal finishes, most notably a few very light scratches as associated with light field use, on left side of butt. Mechanically crisp, appears to have had very little firing since proof, with only slight halos on breechface. Case leather has a few rubs. Interior cloth is slightly soiled. A fine little upland gun with superb, appropriate engraving by an acknowledged genius who is no longer with us. 50819-21 MGM177 (35,000-55,000)
