ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI "VENERE EXTRA LUSSO" SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH FINE SCROLL AND BULINO GAME SCENES. Abbiatico & Salvinellil SXS 324 12 ga MODERN Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. This gun was made just after Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli changed their numbering system, and were building some of the world's best guns. This example represents a combination of exceptional gunmaking and high quality, tasteful embellishment. 27-1/2" Chopper lump bbls are fitted with slightly swamped, concave game rib. Side of left bbl is engraved "ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI". Bbl flats are stamped with makers name, A&S logos, SN and 1980 Italian nitro proofs. Rear lump is stamped with first names of craftsmen involved in the making of this fine gun; Dante, Poli, Remo (Salvinelli), Mario (Abbiatico), Gian, and Tony. Coin finished, sidelock action is nicely filed and features non-automatic safety (S engraved), bushed strikers, and dbl triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with near full coverage exceptionally well cut small scroll surrounding fine bulino portrait of a pointer retrieving a cock pheasant on bottom of action. Lockplate scenes spill over onto sides of action and extend to edges of lockplates which also have sprays of scroll. A highly detailed scene on left lockplate depicts a progression in flight of chukar partridge from a covey on ground at front of plate transitioning through flush, flare, and departure. Right side depicts a group of pheasant with hens toward front, and a pair of sparring cocks at center. This exceptionally fine, nicely detailed, engraving is signed "CORNICI G. MARCO INC." on trigger plate. Single beaded trigger guard has scroll matching that on action. SN is on tang. Striking, beautifully marbled and lightly stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over checkered wood butt, and features drop points and well cut point pattern checkering with line borders on diamond hand. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release, and A&S gold shield inlet on central uncheckered diamond. Bore diameter: left -.727, right - .726. Bore restrictions: left - .022 (mod), right - .008 (IC). Drop at heel: 2-3/8", drop at comb: 1-9/16". Cast: approx 1/4" off. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 15". CONDITION: Excellent, as partially and lightly refinished after casual field use, with only one or two subsequent marks. Bbls retain nearly all of what appears to be an exceptional re-black, with one or two light marks. Coin finish of action has areas where lacquer is rubbed through, and with a hint of darkening, with a ding or two. All engraving remains sharp and clear. Buttstock retains a lot of orig finish around action and at grip. Butt portion with light refinish has less gloss, and a 1/2" scratch toward toe on left side. Forend also seems to have had a light refreshening with oil. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Felt pads have been added in bbl channels and forend to tighten. 50819-31 MGM188 (17,500-27,500)
