SUPERB PIOTTI "BOSS" 20 GAUGE OVER-UNDER SHOTGUN WITH EXTRAORDINARY MONACO 4 ENGRAVING BY TERZI WITH CASE. PIOTTI OU BOSS MONACO 4 9275 20 GA MODERN Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 28" demi-bloc bbls are fitted with narrow, concave matted solid rib. Left side of top bbl is engraved "Flli PIOTTI Italy". Bbl flats are stamped with 1995 Italian nitro proofs. Bottoms of bbls are marked with importer name and address (W. L. Moore Westlake CA). Small sized, coin finished, sidelock, low profile, OU action is marked with makers name, proofs, etc. on interior where hidden by bbls. It appears that this is a special gun made for Mr. Moore. It is fitted with non-selective single trigger, and non-automatic safety. Action and lockplates are engraved with superb large flowing scrolled acanthus with floral terminations and highlights, as is usually offered on the highest "Monaco 4" grade. This very fine engraving is signed on trigger plate "M Terzi" (Mario). Beaded small bow trigger guard has matching engraving. Very fine, exhibition quality intricately marbled and lightly fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over checkered wood butt and features diamond hand with closely spaced point pattern checkering with line borders. Matching one piece small ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: top -.620, bottom - .619. Bore restrictions: top - .015 (mod), bottom - .009 (IC). Drop at heel: 2-3/8", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 14-1/4". Dark leather case with stitched leather corners, most likely by Nizzoli, has green canvas leather trimmed outer cover, is lined in dark olive felt, and has black silver embossed Piotti label in lid. Case is semi-french fitted for action and bbls, and contains Piotti marked oil bottle and snap caps, along with rosewood and brass cleaning rod with mop, brush, and jag. Proof certificate is in covered compartment. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new, with little evidence of firing since proof, and only a few very light marks in all wood and metal finishes. Mechanically crisp. Case has some light marks on exterior leather. Outer cover is good. Interior is excellent, as are accessories.
