NICELY UNDERSTATED SVELTE 28 BORE PIOTTI "KING NUMBER 1" SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN WITH CASE.PIOTTISXS KING 1740028GAMODERNCal. 28 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 26" Chopper lump bbls with slightly raised, hand matted, game rib are engraved "ACCIATO SIAU UM 6" and "FLLI PIOTTI GARDONE VT" on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with SN, 1979 Italian nitro proofs and early Piotti logo. Small sized, coin finished, sidelock action features automatic safety, bushed strikers, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with very tasteful, large, floral and foliate flourishes through a full coverage background of well cut very small scroll. Beads and fillets are left unengraved to fine effect. "PIOTTI" is inlaid in gold on bottom left of action, and a sovereign's crown is in gold on top lever. This engraving continues on to trigger guard which has a single beaded small bow. SN is on riband at tang. Engravers signature "G Ranetti" is on trigger plate. Dark, well marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over fully checkered wood butt. Stock features diamond hand with very well cut, closely spaced, borderless, point pattern checkering. Small well shaped beavertail ejector forend has Anson release and Piotti crest inlet in gold on uncheckered central diamond. Bore diameter: left -.567, right - .567. Bore restrictions: left - .038 (full), right - .017 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 5 lbs. 3 oz. LOP: 14-3/8". Dark brown leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli is lined in dark olive felt, has gold embossed black leather Piotti label stitched into lid, and contains 2-pc walnut and brass cleaning rod with mop, brush, and jag, two pairs of snap caps (one marked Piotti), and Piotti marked oil bottle. CONDITION: Excellent, showing a modest amount of use, as would be associated with a week or so in the field, with a few light marks on blue of bbls. Coin finish is excellent with no darkened areas. There are a number of fine lines and scratches on wood, mostly on left side of buttstock. Checkering is very lightly worn. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. There are faint firing halos on breechface. Mechanics are excellent. Case leather has a few scuffs and a 6" compression toward rear of top. Interior cloth is excellent, as are accessories.
