UNUSUAL AND RARE 20 GAUGE PIOTTI CLASSIC HAMMER GUN WITH CASE. PIOTTI SXS HAMMER A196 20 GA MODERN (2011) Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. Unlike the usual Piotti hammer gun, which is based on the regular shotgun action, with the addition of external hammers, and is only available in 12 gauge, this special gun can only be cocked by operating hammers, and is specially made in 20 bore with 29" chopper lump bbls with slightly swamped matted rib. Bbl flats are stamped with SN and 2011 Italian nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Importers name and address are engraved on bottom of right bbl (WLM Scottsdale AZ). Case hardened small action is traditionally filed with classic fences around striker nipples, and features bar sidelocks mounted with serpentine hammers with tall spurs. The only "modern" convenience is a top tang safety (S inlaid in gold). Double triggers are case hardened and front is articulated. Action and locks are engraved with well cut small scroll surrounding traditional rose bouquets. Engravers signature "C Boniotti" is on trigger plate. "Flli Piotti" is inlaid in gold on both sides of action, and case hardened single beaded trigger guard has SN gold inlaid on tang. Spectacular, wonderfully marbled and figured dark European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/16" over checkered wood butt, and features rounded drop points and classic point pattern checkering. Long splinter non-ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.625, right - .625. Bore restrictions: left - .014 (lt mod), right - .009 (IC). Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: about 1/2" off. Weight: 6 lbs. 5 oz. LOP: 15-1/16". Blue ABS case with tan leather trim, is lined in royal blue velvet. PROVENANCE: Proof certificate. CONDITION: Excellent, essentially as new, with scant evidence of firing since proof, with only the lightest of handling and assembly marks in all fine factory finishes. Action is tight.
