FINE PIOTTI MONTE CARLO HEAVY GAME GUN WITH CASE. PIOTTI SXS MONTE CARLO 8961 12 GA MODERN (1991) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 27-1/2" Chopper lump bbls with slightly swamped, matted game rib, are engraved "Flli PIOTTI ITALY" on side of left bbl. Bbl flats are stamped with 1991 Italian nitro proofs, and with SN. Bottom of left bbl is engraved with model and importers name and address (WLM Westlake, CA). Case hardened sidelock action features non-automatic safety (S inlaid in gold), raised arrowhead tumbler end cocking indicators, H&H type lock detaching pin, and dbl triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with 80% coverage Purdey style well cut rose and scroll. Engravers signature "Piotti" is on trigger plate. Makers name does not appear on exterior, but is stamped, along with grade, on water table. Matching case hardened single beaded trigger guard has SN on tang. Beautifully marbled, exhibition quality, stump European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over checkered wood butt, and features diamond hand, well cut point pattern checkering with line borders, and a silver oval on toe line is engraved with the monogram "LFM" (?). Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.728, right - .727. Bore restrictions: left - .019 (mod), right - .008 (IC). Drop at heel: 2-1/16", drop at comb: 1-1/2". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 14 oz. LOP: 14-1/2". Dark leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli, is lined in dark olive felt. Black leather Piotti label is stitched into lid. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of very light field use, most noticeably, thinning of blue on sides of bbls, and a few light handling marks in wood. Bores are excellent. Action is very tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Gun has been in storage a long time, and top lever and triggers are a bit sluggish. Case is excellent with a few light rubs.
